When a client tells us they want “curls”, that can mean a hundred different things. From soft and beachy to polished and glamorous, curls come in lots of styles — and knowing the difference helps you get the exact look you’re dreaming of.

Here’s a simple breakdown of the most common types of curls we create in the salon, and what each one gives you.

Beach Waves

Loose, undone and full of movement. These are soft, effortless waves that give that “I woke up like this” feel. They work beautifully on fine to medium hair and pair perfectly with lived-in colour and low-maintenance styles.

Hollywood Waves

Polished, smooth and glamorous. These are uniform, shiny waves designed to look luxe and elegant. They’re ideal for events and weddings, especially on medium to long hair when you want something timeless and eye-catching.

Soft Curls / Blow-Dry Curls

Bouncy, touchable curls that move. This style suits all hair types and gives you that everyday glam finish — soft, full and easy to wear without feeling too styled.

Defined Curls

Structured and noticeable. These curls are more intentional and bold, making them perfect for medium to thick hair and statement looks where you really want the shape to stand out.

Mermaid Waves

Deep, consistent “S” waves. These are smooth, flowing waves that look especially stunning on long hair and extensions. They give a high-impact, glossy finish with lots of drama.

Tight Curls

Big, full curls with volume. Perfect for medium to thick hair and anyone who loves lots of body and movement. These curls bring serious bounce and a more playful, high-energy look.

Natural Texture Enhancement

Your curls, just better. This is all about enhancing what you already have. It’s designed for naturally curly or wavy hair, helping your own texture shine while looking more defined and polished.

Whether you love soft waves, structured curls or something in between, knowing the name of the style you’re after makes it so much easier for your stylist to create your perfect look. And at KGHD, we’re always here to help you find the curl that feels the most you. 💛
