At KGHD, we’re all about creativity — and no one embodies that more than our owner, Kerry. Known for her love of vivid shades and fearless colour work, Kerry sat down to share her passion for bright hair, the myths she wants to bust, and her top tips for making bold colour last.
1. What inspired you to specialise in bright hair colours, and what qualifications or experience have you gained along the way?
I’ve always been drawn to creativity and bold self-expression, and bright hair colours are the ultimate form of that. Early in my career, I realised that vivid colour work allowed me to push boundaries and bring people’s personalities to life in such a visual, powerful way. Over the years, I’ve trained with some of the industry’s leading educators in creative colour placement, colour correction, and advanced blending techniques. I’ve also spent countless hours behind the chair mastering how colour behaves on different hair types — which you can’t learn from a course alone, only experience. At KGHD, we treat bright colour work like a craft — not a quick trend.
2. Why do you think bright hair colours are so popular right now, and which shades are your favourites this season?
People are embracing individuality more than ever — and colour is one of the boldest, most instant ways to stand out or express a mood. After years of minimalist trends, we’re seeing clients crave playfulness again. This season, I’m obsessed with rich magentas, ultraviolet purples, and bold turquoise blends. Pastel versions of these colours are also having a big moment — they’re soft but still make a statement.
3. How do you help clients choose the right bright colour for their hair type, skin tone, and lifestyle?
Consultation is everything. We talk through their skin tone, natural base, maintenance expectations, and what they wear most. Someone with a warm undertone might glow in fiery oranges or coral pinks, while cooler tones suit icy blues or violet shades. Lifestyle matters too — do they need something bold but temporary for a festival, or something they want to wear for months? I always make sure they leave with a colour that enhances who they are — not just what’s trending.
4. What’s the biggest myth about bright hair colours you’d like to bust?
That they’ll always ruin your hair. If done properly — using quality products, gradual lightening, and good aftercare — vibrant colours can actually be part of a healthy hair journey. Damage usually comes from rushing the process or using poor-quality bleach and toners. At KGHD, we’re all about integrity of the hair first, then the colour.
5. How high maintenance are bright hair colours really, and what are your top tips for keeping them vibrant for longer?
They can be a bit high maintenance, especially in the first few weeks, but with the right aftercare it’s totally manageable. My top tips:
• Always use sulfate-free shampoo and cold to lukewarm water when washing.
• Wash less frequently — dry shampoo is your best friend.
• Add a coloured conditioner or pigment mask to keep the tone fresh between appointments.
• And never skip your heat protectant — bright hair and heat damage don’t mix.
6. Why should someone come to KGHD for bright colours — what makes your team stand out?
KGHD isn’t just a salon — it’s a space where creativity, skill, and care collide. We don’t just slap a bright colour on and call it a day — we take time to understand the person sitting in our chair and tailor the technique to them. Our team has trained in advanced creative colour, and we’re known for transformations that are not only bold, but beautifully blended and wearable. We’re also massive believers in hair health — which means our bright colours are designed to turn heads without compromising the integrity of your hair.
