How to Make Framing & Layered Cuts Last

One of the most common things we hear in the salon is: “I love my cut… I just want it to last longer.”

Face-framing and layered cuts are designed to move, soften and flatter — but they do need a little know-how to keep them looking fresh between appointments.

Here’s how we help your cut go the distance.

It Starts in the Salon Chair

Longevity begins before you even leave the salon. Soft, blended layers are key — especially around the face. Face-framing that sits below the cheekbone or jaw tends to grow out more gracefully, keeping the shape balanced for longer. We also remove weight within the shape rather than chopping into the ends, which helps the cut hold its structure as it grows.

This is where customisation matters — the right placement makes all the difference.

Be Gentle With the Front

The front of your hair takes the most wear, so it’s often the first place to lose its shape. Over-styling face-framing with straighteners every day can cause heat fatigue, which makes layers drop and lose their movement faster.

Instead, try alternating your parting, give the straighteners a break, and use a round brush rather than flat ironing to maintain softness and bounce.

Protect Your Hair While You Sleep

What you do at night matters more than you think. Sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase helps reduce friction, which can distort layers over time. A loose low bun or braid is kinder on the hair, and avoiding sleeping with wet hair helps prevent unnecessary stretching and breakage.

Less friction = better shape for longer.

Micro Maintenance Is Your Secret Weapon

You don’t always need a full haircut to refresh your style. Small, regular tweaks can keep everything looking intentional. A fringe or face-frame tidy every 4–6 weeks, a light dry dusting to refresh the shape, or even a professional blow-dry can completely revive layered cuts between appointments.

Think of it as maintenance, not starting over.

The Takeaway

Layered and face-framing cuts are meant to evolve — but with the right cut, thoughtful styling, and a little in-between care, they’ll grow out beautifully and stay wearable for longer.

If you’re unsure what will work best for your hair, just ask — we’re always happy to guide you.
